Where to See It

The Dry-Mesic Chestnut Oak - Northern Red Oak Forest is abundant at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and is found on many of the park’s somewhat sheltered upper slopes. Here are some good places to see it on Loudoun Heights: 

1)  on the Appalachian Trail on a slope overlooking the Shenandoah River on its southern shore.

2) on the Appalachian Trail just south of its intersection with the Loudoun Heights orange trail.

3) on the Loudoun Heights orange trail, north of its intersection with the Loudoun Heights blue trail.
