This natural community is uncommon at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Here’s a good place to see it:

1) at the overlook on Maryland Heights. Follow the Overlook Cliff Trail (red blaze) up Maryland Heights to its end. From Overlook Cliff, look upslope behind you to see the Basic Woodland. (Look downslope for outstanding views of the rivers and the lower town of Harpers Ferry.)
